Dear Lauren

If you have questions about perfume, perfumed products, the fragrance industry, brands, anything -- please ask me in the comments. I'd love to test my knowledge and hopefully impart some as well!

Hey. I just stumbled across your blog while searching for Perfume schools on google. It is a breathe of fresh air to say the least. For most of my life I have loved smells and it recently dawned on me that I could actually make a career out of that. So i have been searching far and wide for any way to get into a perfume school, but it does not seem possible. Everything I find is either extremely vague or does not offer any application form. So I was hoping that maybe you could help me out. Where do I start? Right now I am in school in New Jersey for Physics and I am in the process of building an alembic to start distilling what I can in my free time, but that will only get me so far since most things are synthetic at this point and I only have access to so many materials. So can you help me out? If you can email me back that would be so much help. Matthewalbasi@hotmail.com

I too am interested in going to school for perfuming but am somewhat at a loss as to how to best prepare myself to look like an attractive candidate for any of the programs. I have a chemistry background (in food, though fragrance and flavor chemistry have many similarities), but other than some playing around with essential oils that I've bought, do not have access to materials to do any more learning on my own. Did you just apply to school on a whim or did you prepare ahead of time to better your chances of being accepted? I would love to chat with you about this in more detail--please send me an email at dana_lukes@yahoo.com if you are open to more disussion on the topic. Thanks and best regards!
